Yearning for a journey back to primeval times? Yes, of course!
Right amidst the scenic Tirolean mountains where you find the mighty Steinplatte massif, the whole area was covered with water some 250 million years ago. No, it was not a broken water pipe but the giant, primeval Tethys Ocean! All mountain peaks were part of a fantastic underwater world boasting an incredible richness of fauna and flora.
Here you can follow the tracks of the world's first animal species.
As the Ocean dried up a long time ago, the rocks and stone formations within the entire region hide many little secrets trapped in the boulders. Nowadays they are called "fossils". And do you know who will search for them? Exactly, it's your job!
The TRIASSIC adventure starts already in the foothills of the Steinplatte massif.
At the base terminal of the mountain gondola a kind of Tethys Ocean creates a very special atmosphere... Measure-made gondolas with underwater designs take you and your family on top of the peak.
Jump in and dive up the mountain!
The wonderful Triassic Park features the Triassic Center, a Triassic Beach and the Triassic Trail. In a word, young visitors get to know everything about dinosaurs and other primeval animals - including plenty of interesting tricks and useful tips. Additional highlight: an adventurous trip across the Steinplatte massif, coupled with refreshing get-wet pleasures awaits you as well.

In the Zeiss Planetarium in Schwaz, visitors can nearly touch the starlit sky.
Map: Planetarium Schwaz Schwaz In the Planetarium Schwaz visitors can reach for the stars. Unlike in astronomical observatories visitors do not watch the stars through a telescope, but the glimmering stars are artificially projected into the planetarium.
Optic precision devices, a 360 degree video equipment with sound system and effect projectors transform the cupola of the planetarium into space. In the cupola room of the planetarium the focus is set on providing informtion about the starry sky to children.
Moreover the planetarium offers different shows and performances on various topics, for instance black holes, the origins of life, astronautics as well as cosmic occurences like solar and lunar eclipses. Furthermore there are starry fairy-tales for adults and children, organised on a reguar basis.
A galactic event centre for the whole family!

The Lake Achensee is a lake in Tyrol, north of Jenbach and wouldn′t be much to shout about, given that Austria has more than 300 lakes altogether. However, the Achensee is one of the few Tyrolean lakes and a particularly large one. Thus, it is very popular among tourists and domestic visitors and worth a separate article.
As mentioned above, the lake is the biggest of the province and 133 metres deep. Its water is exceptionally pure and almost meets the requirements of tap water. Being a proper alpine lake, the Achensee rarely gets any warmer than 20 degrees. To make things worse, its position in a valley creates thermal motion that gives rise to a constant breeze. Therefore, the lake is hugely popular among windsurfers.
The history of the Achensee is closely linked with the monastery of St. Georgenberg. The lake was given to the monastery by the county of Schlitters in 1120 and remained with it until 1919. Apart from tourism, the Achensee and a creek originating from it are used by a power plant. Tourism on the lake started - like in most areas of Tyrol - in the 19th century. In 1887, a steam boat named "St Joseph" was released to the lake. |

Kufstein Fortress is the jewel of the Tyrolean lowlands and a landmark of the district's administrative centre. The fortress is first mentioned in a document in 1205 as the property of the bishops of Regensburg. Ownership of the land was subsequently shared with the Dukes of Bavaria. In 1313, the castle was given to the Dukes of Bavaria as a Regensburg fief. In 1415, Duke Ludwig "the bearded" expanded the fortifications.
And in 1504, Emperor Maximilian I besieged and conquered Kufstein. Maximilian I ordered the castle be rebuilt and extended to the size of a fortress. Further extension work was commissioned in the 17th century. In 1703 and 1805 the Bavarians conquered the fortress. It was finally returned to Austria in 1814. The fortress has been the property of the city of Kufstein since 1924.

This Tyrolean open-air museum is located between Innsbruck and Kufstein and has been founded in 1974.
The largest open-air museum of Tyrol is located in the municipality of Kramsach in the East of Lake Reintal. Fragments of rural architecture have been collected and brought together in Kramsach. This is where you can visit 14 farmhouses with annexed buildings like mill, blacksmiths and chapels as well as small animals, as eventually these animals make part of a life in a farmhouse!
One of the highlights is the Kirchtagsfest fair in the Farmhouse Museum. This is when rural activities are presented, providing an insight into rural life. Baking bread, making cheese, stirring butter and much more…
However, also in numerous other events visitors can set their hand, e.g. making clogs, grinding knifes and knipling. On a regular basis there are also special events for children.
